AI, and why people are the problem
My opinion of AI is very mixed. To be honest I was originally going to use an AI image to fit in with the theme of this post, but decided against it as it goes against one of the things I hate about it, (in fact now I feel bad for even considering it now I put my thoughts to paper). I please ask you read though all of this, before making judgements on my views, as while I may sound like a “tech bro” for the first bit I am certainly not.
First, let us talk about what I like about AI before I come off as some progress-hating hermit who scared to learn new things, (though it would probably be much less stressful living like that in some respects).
AI can be extremely useful when used for matter of fact things. Like summarizing data, proof reading (when it doesn’t decide to change the whole meaning of your work), and offering programing help which has been very helpful in times when I hit a dead-end and just can’t work it out.
Of course, this has its downsides, if you become too reliant on AI and never try to understand its output then you never really learn anything. I have made it my personal goal to not use AI for any written/image content on this site, and only as a last resort for anything on the html/coding side of things (not needed it yet). Learning to use AI is (sadly in some respects), going to be a key skill for our future world, without understanding what its spitting out you never really grow. Humanity as a whole could lose very valuable skills if we become a world where we just copy and paste from AI.
Now for what I cannot stand about AI, and that is people, people f***ing suck. Where do I start, CEO’s trying to replace human workers even if it means a worse customer experience, people making horrible AI art built using stolen works, all the AI slop on social media, and of course all the bots now spreading content meant to push certain views(that all goanna say for that rabbit hole on the last point).
Like I know, you always have bad people in the world but so many people seem to just want to use AI to make a quick buck even if it means making stuff worse. Google search now throws AI in your face, making search worse, every new bit of tech is trying throw in AI as a selling point even if 90% people do not want it, just AHHHHHHHHHHHH.
AI eats up so much power and in some cases water for cooling and were using it for, what? Make crappy copies of things a real human can make much better.
I think I will stop here as I am just starting to rant. TLDR AI can be very good, why are people burning the planet to make crappy AI videos designed to seeming to make us lose brain cells. I promise the next post on here will not be as ranty
My thoughts on Switch 2
Quick update 22/03/2026: The new handheld boost mode added to switch 2 this week fixes one of my bad points on the system. Still keeping it in as I would like this site to be a time capsule of my thoughts, but yes, I know unpatched switch 1 games are no longer limted to 720p max handheld.
The switch 2 has certainly flared up the internet. I have seen people on both extremes saying it is the best thing since sliced bread and (be it a lot more) how it is everything wrong with society today. Anyway, here are some of my own switch 2 opinions after owning one since launch (first time I ever have ever pre-ordered a game system before). I will note there is probably some positive bias in this, as I personally have been really enjoying using it, but I will try my best to be unbiased, by having a section for stuff that does not affect me that much, but are objectively downsides. This is a website for my own opinions anyway, who cares if I am bias.
The Good
- It do just be a more powerful switch. It is roughly in-between a ps4 and Xbox series S in terms of power, but really depends on the game how much it improves things. From what I seen and played so far we are far past the era of third party games looking very blurry on switch. (Also funny note Fortnite on switch 2 looks better than the Xbox series s version, but that is likely due to the fact the developers for it do not care about the Xbox series S version).
- Backwards compatibility is great. Due to it using a translation layer (like how the steam deck runs windows games on Linux), Switch 1 games get access to the more powerful switch 2 hardware. This will not really make much difference for most games by itself, as they will still run at their original switch 1 resolution and frame rate targets, without a patch to add specific improvements. However, games with a dynamic resolution scale or suffered from frame drops will run at their maximum resolution and a locked frame rate (with a few exceptions). I should note not all Switch 1 games currently work on Switch 2, but there a minority not the norm, and they are still doing updates to the compatibility layer to try and get all games working.
- The new Joycons are much nicer then the switch 1’s. The magnetic connectors are much more stable than the Switch 1 rail system. You no longer get the subtle wiggle when playing handheld. The mouse mode also works surprisingly well. It is not as nice as a real mouse, but after getting use to it, it is certainly better than using joysticks to aim, and more reliable then gyro.
- System apps like the Eshop, and the switch online app are now useable. No longer will it feel like we have gone back to dialup internet when you just want have a nosy of what is on sale.
- The 120Hz screen and support for VRR (handheld only sadly) is very nice and was the most unexpected thing about the system to me. We will see how many games make use of it, but it does make certain games play much nicer. The VRR support helps games as well that may suffer from frame drops to not be as noticeable (if they use it of course).
The objectively bad, but does not personally affect my use case, but could affect someone else.
- The screen does have a ghosting issue. I personally do not really notice it expect in 30 fps games, but even then, I often forget about it when I get into playing a game. It is there though and I sure it would annoy people more sensitive to it. The pixel response time is also objectively not great, but if I am playing at a level where that matters, I am most likely playing docked not handheld.
- The screen is not OLED. Personally I fine with this, as due to current tech limits it was either VRR support or OLED, and I think VRR was the right choice.
- • The battery life can likely be an issue for some people. It officially lasts 2 to 6.5 hours depending on what game you’re playing, and it really does depend on the game. I personally found for switch 2 and switch games with switch 2 enhancements it last around 2 and a half to 3 hours. Switch 1 and simpler 2D games like Deltarune last longer, but in my very non-scientific testing, I say it is more 4-5 hours. This does not really affect me personally as if I am playing a game for more than 2 hours I either be playing docked or will have a power bank handy, but I can see how for a mostly portable only user this could be a deal breaker.
The bad
- Game Keycards are cringe. I understand to an extent, as some games are too big for the type of flash storage normal game cards use, or games need the faster speeds the internal storage and express SD cards can do. However, instead of game Keycards that require you download the game from the internet, why not just put them on slower but bigger game cards, which will just install the game to the system when inserted like how the Xbox and PlayStation handle discs? If I buy a physical game I just want the game to be on the card, if you’re going to just make it download only anyway, I will just get it digital that point and avoid having putting a card in at all (maybe that’s what they want).
- Game prices for some of Nintendo’s first party games are getting too high. I know it does mostly match other AAA games prices, but dear god £75 for Mario kart World! (if you want it get it for £30 in the switch 2 bundle while it is still around). Luckily in the UK(and EU from what I seen) and you look around at any shop not called Game, you can find games for cheaper after they been out for a few weeks, but I hope £75 doesn’t become the standard for other games (only Mario kart is that right now, most others are £60 to £66 RRP).
- The lack of scaling options for switch 1 games in handheld mode can make some games look very blurry. I understand it is due to 720p not upscaling well to a 1080p screen, but it be nice to have the option to play with black bars like the 3DS offered when playing DS games, so games match their original resolution.
